To Market, to Market!

I love the way this old nursery rhyme is reimagined in the book To Market, To Market (which I've read to my daughter many times, over the years!). The illustrations, near the middle (you can view the read aloud at the end), match what I envision when I hear my clients talk about their experiences with marketing: overwhelm, frustration and exhaustion.
The word "marketing" is often followed by a long groan or deep sigh. That's because, writing a blog post or newsletter, along with the related social media posts, takes a lot of time and energy, and doesn't often feel like a top priority when so many other tasks are pulling you in other directions. And, when you see that only a few people actually commented upon, shared, or replied to those carefully crafted posts, it can be very discouraging.
It's important to remember that direct engagement with your blog, newsletter or social media post is not the only goal for posting them. As any SEO guide/pro will tell you, these posts are critical to ensuring that your company is appearing in browser search results (yeah, there's much more that goes into this, but that's for another time). Further, though people may not engage (immediately or ever), these outreaches are helping people to get to know you/your company, develop trust, and better understand what it is that you are offering.
But... it's still not your favorite thing or the highest and best use of your time. This is why many business owners outsource their marketing to an experienced virtual assistant (VA) or other marketing professional (MP). I often hear from business owners that they want to use a VA, but they're not really sure how to do so. I'm including some explanation below.
Working with a VA/MP, who can understand your business and echo your voice, you can outline marketing goals and create an editorial calendar (which outlines content ideas, along with when and where to publish). Your VA/MP can also help you to develop customer avatars, which profile your target audience(s) to help you to craft messages relevant to them. Further, your VA/MP is familiar with the endless "quirks" associated with the tools you'll use to get your message out, and can quickly and easily create, edit, add links, find/add images, and videos, etc. to your messages/posts.* Lastly, your VA/MP can provide you with analytics reports or feedback as to how your marketing efforts are working, and make adjustments to get better engagement (and better reporting).
*In the beginning, at least, it's best if the subject matter expert (you) creates the written content, and allows the VP/MP to revise, edit and tailor the messages for the various platforms. (And, yes, in the beginning, you can and should review these before they're published.)
